A dream and passion...
Hacienda de las Rosas Winery, Vineyards and Peruvian Paso Horse Ranch is a
dream and passion for couple,
William Holzhauer and Tammy Rimes. Starting in 1998, they chose a beautiful picturesque property in Ramona., California for their home and winery. Over the years, they have planted the vineyards, built the horse facilities, developed a breeding program and constructed a winery where they embrace the essence of Spanish wine making traditions. Their love of land and agricultural life has led to their family motto
“Drink Fine Wine…Ride Fine Horses.”
The history of wine in San Diego County began with the Spanish padres in the late 1700’s. They brought the art of wine making and viticulture through the chanin of 21 missions along the California Coast. The first mission, founded in 1769 by Father Junipero Serra, was named San Diego de Alcala. The winery in Ramona is maodeled after that first California mission. Surrounded by picturesque mountains, the property features an spanish adobe home with courtyard, avocado grove, vineyards and horse ranch.

William and Tammy, with their three children – Saum, Shireen, and Jonathan – chose to open their wine
tasting room in Historic Old Town, San Diego within the Fiesta de Reyes plaza. With their Spanish style wines, and early California historical theme, the tasting room, family wines and shop products in the items featured and sold during that historic time period for early San Diego.
The family horse ranch specializes in the Peruvian Paso Horse, a smooth Spanish gaited breed. This horse is known for its smoothness, where a glass of wine can actually be enjoyed while riding! The beauty, grace and good dispositions also make this a wonderful breed of horse. A Golden Horse, “Promesa de Perfeccion” or “Promise of Perfection” is featured on each wine labrel, and many of the wines are named afer the ranch horses. Visitors can hear stories about the horses while enjoying their wine tasting experience.
